Ordering on gDiapers.com

I see two options for ordering gRefills: add to cart and autoship. Which do I choose?

That depends on whether you’d like to order refills as a one time order or set up a recurring shipment. If you “add to cart” it will be a one time order, future orders will not be shipped automatically based on this order. The advantage to placing a one time order is that you can order other items at the same time and only have to enter your payment information once. Plus you can use any gift certificates you might have, or apply a promotional code if you have one.

If you choose autoship you will then be taken through the process of setting up an automatic recurring delivery. This is a popular option because you can set up your frequency and duration of a recurring refill order and never have to worry about running out! The bonus is that we offer free shipping on autoship orders and you can edit or cancel your autoship at any time. However, if you want to order other items such as little gPants or snap-in liners they cannot be part of your autoship order. A separate order will need to be placed. Gift certificates and promotional codes do not apply to autoship orders. The autoship feature is currently limited to deliveries within the contiguous US only.

Can I apply a gift certificate or promotional code to my autoship order?

Sorry, no. When you create an autoship order our shop takes a snapshot of your order and then automatically generates the identical order on a recurring basis, from the products you ordered all the way down to the financial details*. Gift certificates and promotional codes are for single orders only, which simply won't function under an autoship program.

*Rest assured, your financial information is securely encrypted and stored behind our PCI-compliant firewall and intrusion detection system

Can I pay for my autoship refills and order of little gPants at the same time?
Sorry, no, they're treated as separate transactions. Basically, when you create an autoship order our shop takes a snapshot of your order and then automatically generates the identical order on a recurring basis. If there were other items in your cart, little gPants, for example, those would automatically be shipped (and billed) to you on a recurring basis as well. This is the fundamental reason why we require your orders be separate.
Can I purchase a gift certificate for a friend and have it emailed directly to them?
You bet. Online gift certificates are available in pre-determined denominations, from $25 to $500. You can choose to have the gift certificate(s) emailed to yourself or to your friend. If you lose the email with the gift certificate codes you can always log in to your gDiapers account to find them again under your orders. You can also check the remaining balance of yours gift certificate on gDiapers.com.
Can I use multiple gift certificates on one order?
Yes! And aren't you lucky that you have multiple gift certificates! If your gift codes cover the full balance of your order you will not need to enter your credit card information. You can always check the balance of your gift certificate ahead of time on gDiapers.com. Please note that you cannot use multiple promotional/discount codes on one order.
I want to place an online order but I don’t want to register with you.
No problem. You can place an order as a guest and your information will not be stored. The benefit of registering is you will have easy access to your order history and status and future orders are a breeze since you don't have to re-enter your shipping and billing information. For your privacy assurance we do not store financial information.
Why do I need to give you my email address if I’m ordering as a guest?
Email is how we communicate with you about your order. We'll send you your receipt via email and tracking status. Unless you choose to subscribe to gDiapers newsletter we won't email you for any other reason. Naturally, your information is held strictly confidential, we do not sell or rent your email address to anyone.
I ordered as a guest and lost my email with the tracking information. How can I find out information about my order?
Just let us know the name that the order was purchased under and we'll look you up. You can contact us by phone, 1.866.55.FLUSH (35874), or email info@gdiapers.com.
I received this message after I entered my credit card information: “The transaction resulted in an AVS mismatch.  The address provided does not match billing address of cardholder.” What does that mean? Did my order go through?
Unless you received a confirmation email from us your order did not go through. We rely on a security measure known as Address Verification (AVS), which requires that your billing address match exactly as it appear on your credit card statement. If you receive the AVS mismatch message it probably means that there was a typo in your address, a digit off in your zip code, or maybe you recently moved and haven't updated your address yet. Please note that when you attempt a transaction your bank will hold the funds pending authorization even if the transaction is declined. They do this to make sure the funds are available just in case the transaction were to be approved by the vendor. If your card was declined then these held funds will be released according to your bank's standard policies. There's nothing that you need to do. It typically takes 24-48 business hours for these pending authorizations to clear.
Where do you ship?
We are happy to ship to our customers in the US and Canada, including APO addresses. Please see our shipping policy for more details.
I’m in Canada and would like to order from you but your shipping charges are so expensive!
Unfortunately shipping rates to Canada are high. This is why most US retailers are hesitant to ship to Canada at all, and why we're the only gDiapers retailer that will do so. Even Amazon.com and Diapers.com won't ship our product to Canada. It's simply too expensive when you involve fulfillment centers. The thing with smaller items like little gPants and snap-in liners is that it's definitely more cost effective to order several at one time. For instance, if your shipping quote on 2 pairs of pants was $25 USD you would probably pay the same fee for 4 pants. Or if you ordered 6 pants it would bump the fee up to $26.75. Many of our Canadian customers choose to combine orders with a friend to maximize their shipping dollar. And please sign up for email updates from us so you'll always be kept in the loop of deals on gDiapers.com.
What is gDiapers return policy?
You may request a return for refund for unused items purchased from gDiapers.com within 60 days of purchase. If you just need to exchange your gDiapers.com purchase for another size we're happy to do that at any time.  Please see the returns and exchange policy posted in our shop for full details.
I’m having a quality issue with my little gPant. I just bought it. Can I get it replaced?
We are happy to inspect and replace items that have workmanship issues within 45 days of purchase. For more details on our quality policy, please visit our shop.
What’s the difference between a wishlist and a registry? Which do you offer?
We currently offer a wishlist feature on gDiapers.com. A wishlist is simply a place where you can list the items that you would like to receive. You can then send this list on to friends and family so they know that gDiapers are your diaper of choice and you simply must have the little gPants in every size and color (wink). A registry is similar in that it stores the items you would like, but it's interactive. When someone purchases an item from your registry it is viewable by others that it has already been purchased. A wishlist doesn't have this automatic adjustment.
Why don’t you have a registry?
Truth is we'd love to offer a registry, unfortunately a registry simply isn't scalable to the current size of our company and the scope of our product offering. Registries are a complicated product to install on a web shop, well worth the time of the large vendors like Babies R Us who sell multiple product lines and are huge companies. But for a little company like gDiapers only selling one product, the cost is simply too large for us to take on.
Do you ever run sales on gDiapers.com?
Absolutely. We're hard to predict, but if you sign up for email updates from gDiapers.com we'll be sure to keep you in the loop. To sign up, simply enter your email address in the "subscribe to news" box at the bottom of any page on our website.
Where else can I find good deals on gDiapers?
Check out our web partners. Many of them offer free shipping with a minimum purchase. Or keep your eyes on your local retailer. Visit our store locator to find a store near you.

Product Availability

What retail stores carry gDiapers?
gDiapers are available at select baby and natural retailers in the United States and Canada. Visit our store locator to find a store near you.
What gDiaper products can I buy in my local store?

Currently retailers stock the packages of biodegradable gRefills and 2-pack of little gPants. Some stores may still carry our starter kit. If you would like to purchase your gRefills by the case just ask the grocery manager. Often they are able to special order cases for you. Some smaller stores (boutiques) may also carry some of our individual little gPants. We always recommend calling your store ahead of time to make sure they have what you want on hand. Our full line of little gPants as well as the extra snap-in liners are available only on gDiapers.com.

My store doesn’t have the colors that I want in the 2-pack of little gPants. How can I get the other colors?
Ask your grocery manager if a special order can be made for the other little gPant 2-packs. Or check out gDiapers.com to see our entire selection of little gPants available for individual purchase.
Why is the little gPant 2-pack more expensive than the starter kit? Didn’t the starter kit include more items?
Feedback from our customers over the last 3 years was crucial in helping us develop this new product option. They wanted more color combinations at an economical price and didn't necessarily always want to have to purchase a starter kit when extra pants were needed. We've streamlined the packaging, removed the 10 biodegradable gRefills, and bundled it all inside a reusable bag, perfect for toting g's out and about. Individual pants retail online for $16.99 a piece, so the 2-pack is a great value at $29.99.
Can I choose the colors in my little gPant 2-pack?
Unfortunately the little gPant 2-pack is not customizable. We hope that you'll like the combinations we've put together. If you're not in love with our 2-pack color options we have a fun selection of little gPants to choose from on gDiapers.com.
I don’t have store near me and I’d like to be able to do all of my baby shopping online in one place. Are there any other web retailers where I can buy gDiapers?

Yes.  Our list of web partners is constantly growing. If you're looking for one-stop shopping and want to include your gRefills in your order, then you may want to check out one of our web partners.  In addition to the gDiapers shop, gDiapers are available on www.diapers.com, www.babiesrus.com, www.amazon.com, www.walmart.com, and www.target.com.

Product Use and Care

What sizes do gDiapers come in?

Our little gPants come in 3 sizes:

Small (8-14lbs/3-7 kg)
Medium (13-28lbs/5-13 kg)
Large (26-36lbs - 11-16 kg)

Our biodegradable gRefills, snap-in liners and reusable gCloth come in 2 sizes:

Small (for use inside the small little gPants)
Medium/Large (for use inside the medium or large little gPants)
I don’t know how much my baby weighs. How long do babies stay in each size by age?

While all babies are different, we can give you an estimate on what the "average" baby will wear for his/her diaper years.

Size small (8-14lbs) typically fits babies from newborn to 4-6 months of age.  Not all newborns can wear gDiapers from day one.  They truly work best beginning at 8 lbs.  Size medium (13-28lbs) has the longest wear time.  Starting at 4-6 months of age most babies will wear the medium until they're 18 months to 2 years old.  Not all babies make it to size large, since some potty train before it's needed.  But if you get there, the large will take your little one up to 36lbs.  The age on this size varies greatly from child to child.

What exactly will I need to keep my baby in gDiapers until potty training?

While all babies are different, we can give you an estimate on what the "average" baby will wear for his/her diaper years.

Size small (8-14lbs) typically fits babies from newborn to 4-6 months of age.  Not all newborns can wear gDiapers from day one.  They truly work best beginning at 8 lbs.  You can expect to go through a case of gRefills every 3-4 weeks if you're using g's exclusively.  For little gPants and liners you'll probably want about 6-8 pants, and 8-10 snap-in liners in size small.

Size medium (13-28lbs) has the longest wear time.  Starting at 4-6 months of age most babies will wear the medium until they're 18 months to 2 years old.  You'll probably go through about a case of gRefills a month.

Not all babies make it to size large, since some potty train before it's needed.  But if you get there, the large will take your little one up to 36lbs.  The age on this size varies greatly from child to child.

What should I buy if I want to use gCloth instead of the biodegradable gRefills?
That depends on how often you see yourself doing laundry. Cloth needs to be changed more frequently than the biodegradable gRefills, so you'll need enough gCloth to get you through at least a day and night's worth of changes, or more if you don't want to do laundry every day. You'll probably need 8-10 gCloth inserts per day. So if you want to do laundry every 3 days you'll need 24-30 gCloth inserts. They come in packages of 6. Many moms and dads are "hybrid" users, which means they keep a stash of biodegradable gRefills on hand for out and about use, for overnight (please see our overnight tips) or when all the gCloth is in the wash.
I’m having another baby and I’d like to be able to use my older child’s little gPants again, but the velcro is beginning to wear out. What can I do?
We love velcro for its versatility and flexibility, but it's true it can wear out, particularly the hook piece. We would be happy to send you replacement hook, free, for your little gPants so you can get a longer life out of them. Just send us an email, info@gdiapers.com.
I’m used to using disposable diapers. How does the fit of gDiapers compare?

There are some big differences between the fit of disposables and the fit of gDiapers.

  • gDiapers tabs secure around the back, away from little hands. The "g" goes on the bum.
  • The rise hits most babies just below the belly button. gDiapers look and fit more like underwear.
  • The velcro tabs to do not need to be pulled very tight as you would with a disposable. The snap-in liner just needs to be flush against baby's skin to keep everything inside, not like disposables that need to be pulled super tight around baby's belly.
  • gDiapers have a nice, trim fit. They're not bulky as you might expect, so you can still fit those darling pants over your baby's bum.
Why does the insert always bunch up? If my baby poops it gets all over the snap-in liner.
Truth is, the bunching is completely normal. The bunching happens on disposables as well, but because they're an all-in-one diaper it's not as noticeable. It's because of those beautifully chubby baby thighs. They squeeze the refills together between those thighs and when it's wet it stays squeezed, or bunched. This should not affect the function of the gDiaper. The purpose of the snap-in nylon liner is not only to hold the gRefill or gCloth in place, but also to catch whatever mess the insert doesn't. This is why we've made those liners so easy to clean and re-use -- they will get dirty. We realize that some parents would prefer the bunching simply didn't happen and are looking at ways to minimize it, but to date have not found one that doesn't interfere with convenience and/or our Cradle to Cradle certification. But our R & D process is ongoing.
Leaks! How do I prevent them?
If you're experiencing leaks more than once in a blue moon there may be one of a few things happening. Here are some tips:
  • Make sure your baby is in the correct size. Moving your baby up to the next larger size prematurely can mean an inappropriate fit, which leads to leaks.
  • We recommend changing your baby every 2-3 hours.
  • If you're finding leaks at the waistband you may be pulling the tabs too tight. The waistband should fit comfortably against baby's skin, if it's pulled too tightly then it will lift the snap-in liner away from baby's body, breaking the seal that keeps messes contained.
  • If you're finding leaks around the legs then the snap-in liner simply needs to be pulled up higher into the crease of the legs. This is easily done by closing the diaper leading with the trim of the snap-in liner, making sure it lays down in the highest crease of the leg, where thigh meets groin. After you've secured the velcro tabs take a peak under the leg bands of the little gPant. If you see gaping from the snap-in liner then you'll need to re-adjust. If you've tried this and continue to see gaping then your baby isn't quite ready for the size you're using.
Can I use gDiapers overnight?
You bet. But what gets your baby through a whole night might not be the same as your friend's baby. Some babies do just fine with one biodegradable gRefill overnight. Some babies require more absorbability, in which case you can double up (check out our overnight tips) with either a second gRefill or a gCloth insert.
What do parents do with gDiapers when they’re not at home?
gDiapers are just as easy out and about as they are at home. Keep your diaper bag stocked with a clean little gPant, loaded with either a biodegradable gRefill or gCloth (pack more for longer outings). Bring your swishstick if you'll be somewhere you think you'll be flushing a soiled gRefill. It stores nicely inside a gallon sized plastic bag, which can then double as a wet bag if you have to tote home a soiled snap-in liner or gCloth. Rinse and re-use for your next trip out of the house. If you can't flush, no worries. Feel free to toss and breathe easy knowing that your gRefill won't sit in a landfill for hundreds of years.
Can I take gDiapers camping?
Absolutely. What a great way to celebrate nature by using the most earth-friendly diaper on your camping trip! If you follow backpacker's etiquette and dig a two-to-three foot hole at least 10 yards from water, you can bury a flushable and leave the guilt behind. If you're near a commercial toilet, you can flush as well.  But if the closest toilet is an outhouse or portable toilet, put the poop in the toilet and toss the rest in the garbage or pack it out. Since a pump is required to empty most outhouses and portable toilets, nothing should be tossed in them except toilet paper to avoid clogging the pump.
How do I wash my little gPants, snap-in liners and gCloth?

To wash little g pants simply close the Velcro tabs, machine wash cold or warm, and tumble dry. Velcro can stick to items in your wash, so make sure you pinch the tabs shut tightly, or throw the pants in a lingerie bag to make sure your delicates are safe.

Snap-in liners will get messy. The good news is they can be machine washed. If they're heavily soiled you'll want to rinse them first. Snap-in liners should be air dried. Not only is it gentler on the planet, but they will last longer too. With frequent washings the water-resistance will fade over time, but with gentle care your snap-in liners should last you about 6 months.

Please avoid using chlorine products or vinegar when laundering your little gPants and snap-in liners.

Please follow the initial care instructions for the gCloth. For regular use you can machine wash on hot and either line or machine dry. Please do not use fabric softeners. If you find that after some use your gCloth is losing some of it's absorbency you may have detergent build-up. Wash your gCloth on hot without detergent (or with just a little bit of dish soap) to "strip" your gCloth of that excess build-up and get them back to peak absorbency.

Do I need to wash the little gPant after every diaper change?
Not necessarily. Our unique snap-in liner will very likely get messy when your baby poops, but the pant should stay clean. Simply unsnap the liner, snap in a new one, and use the little gPant for another diaper change. This means you can use the same pant throughout the day, only changing the refill and liner as needed (which means less laundry!).
What is faulty or non-standard plumbing?

Faulty plumbing would mean there is something broken, systemically flawed, or warped due to time. Examples would be tree-infested pipes, where the roots have sought out the water in the pipes and squeezed their way inside. Older cast iron or clay pipes can crack with age, causing fissures where the coverstock of the gRefill could snag, potentially building up over time and blocking the pipes.

Non-standard plumbing includes (but is not limited to): ejector pumps, house traps and cess pools. We don't recommend flushing if you have a septic system.

If you are a renter ask the landlord or building manager about the state of your pipes. If you own your home it should be stated on your home inspection report.

Can I flush with a septic system?
Although they have been flushed in septic systems for years in Australia, we would hate for you to be the first to have a problem as a result of flushing in North America! We recommend composting the wet ones if you are able. If composting is not an option for you, just put the poop in the toilet and toss the rest, just to be safe. Even if you can't flush you can breathe easy knowing you won't be filling a landfill with a bunch of plastic diapers.
Why do I have to tear the gRefill if I choose to flush?
To avoid a clog, all of the absorbent inner core must fall into the toilet. The contents include fluffed wood pulp and super absorber. If super absorber gets trapped in the outer material, it could clog your toilet. Use your Swishstick™ to stir and break things up to ensure a good flush. If you're brand new to gDiapers you might want to do two flushes until you get the hang of things.
Isn’t the swishing icky?
Parenting is a messy business. There's always something to clean up. Spit-up, vomit, poop, pee, the list goes on. It's just part of being a parent. So, we'll be frank here. Flushing takes some getting used to. We think the wet ones are pretty easy, and luckily, they make up the bulk of diaper changes. As for the poopy ones, it isn't the flushing that's icky, it is rinsing out the snap-in liner that can be a little messy. Rest assured, all diaper systems have their icky sides and ours is no different. Of course, gDiapers keeps your baby dry and comfortable and the Earth a little happier.
Where can I find more information about flushing?
Please check out the Happy Planet section on our website. Or feel free to give us a call, 1.866.553.5874.
Why can’t I compost the poopy gRefills, too?
We cannot responsibly advocate that parents home compost their baby's poopy diapers as there can be human health risks involved. If this is an option you would like to seriously consider there are resources available to guide you.
Would the compost from my baby’s wet-only gRefills be safe to use on vegetables?
Yes. Urine is sterile and incredibly rich in nitrogen, which your veggies will love!
Do I need to tear the gRefill for home composting?
You don't have to, but if you do it will speed up the break down process as there will be more surface area exposed to the elements.
What if flushing or composting is not an option for me?
Not a problem. Environmentally speaking, home composting is the most earth friendly way to dispose of your baby's gRefills because you turn waste into a resource that stays close to home. Flushing is great because your baby's waste gets processed along with the rest of our human waste, and valuable nutrients are captured through our wastewater treatment system, which helps re-build our soil. If these aren't options you can flush the poop and toss the gRefill and still breathe easy knowing that you didn't contribute one more plastic disposable to the landfill. gDiapers are certified biodegradable and Cradle to Cradle, which means that everything that goes into our gRefill will be re-absorbed into nature in a neutral or positive way.
Which side of the gCloth insert goes against baby’s skin, the white or tan side?
Our gCloth is designed so that the super soft microfleece (the white side) goes against baby's skin. The microfleece pulls the moisture away from baby's bottom and then it gets held in the hemp/cotton layers (the tan side).
Why do I have to wash my gCloth 6 times on hot before I can use them?

Before you use your gCloth refills you will need to wash them. They will seem big at first and they will not yet absorb as well until they have been washed. For optimum softness, sizing and absorbency please wash six (6) times before using.

We use a hemp/cotton blend in our gCloth. Hemp is an incredibly absorbent material, but there are oils on the hemp fibers that will inhibit the absorbency until they are washed away. When you wash your gCloth initially on hot you're stripping away those oils, allowing the hemp fibers to open up. You'll find that the more you use your gCloth, the more absorbent they will become.

Wash inserts on hot water and tumble dry on medium heat. No fabric softeners. gCloth inserts will shrink in length after a few washes.

How should I store and wash my baby’s soiled gCloth?

Some parents prefer to store their baby's soiled gCloth in a dry pail (put the poop in the toilet and then just store the inserts in a pail without water). Other parents prefer a wet pail, enough water to cover the inserts. When it's laundry day you can simply empty the pail into your washing machine, run it on a hot rinse, and then wash normally. Wash the gCloth on hot with your regular detergent and machine or air dry. No special machines or detergent is required. You may find after a few months that there is a bit of detergent build-up on your gCloth and they're not absorbing as well as they used to. This is normal and can be solved by occasionally "stripping" your gCloth. Wash them on hot without detergent (or just use a bit of dish soap) to get that excess detergent build-up off.

You may want to chat with other parents on a discussion board, like the gDiapers Yahoo group, to find other options that might work for you.

Earth and Baby

What does Cradle to Cradle mean? Why is it important?

Simply put, being a certified Cradle to Cradle product means that everything in our gRefills will be reabsorbed back into nature in a neutral or positive way.  It's the opposite of cradle to grave: something is created, it's used, and then it just sits there, not biodegrading, not doing anything useful.  It just takes up space. Bill McDonough and the folks at MBDC (a leading US chemistry firm) laid out the principles of Cradle to Cradle and certify only those products that meet the strict criteria. gDiapers is proud to be one of the small handful of products that are Cradle to Cradle certified.

Why do your gRefills say "biodegradable" now? Are they still flushable?
Guess what?  Our gRefills have always been biodegradable, but we only recently received the certification. Our gRefills are certified biodegradable per ASTM standards in commercially managed and home composts. They're still the same as they've always been (so you can keep flushing!).
I’ve heard that nothing biodegrades in a landfill, even things that claim they’re "biodegradable"!

The truth is whether you toss the refills in a plastic bag or nothing at all the breakdown process in a landfill is quite slow. Without access to the critical elements to aid in degradation many items will remain completely intact for years and years and years! We've all heard the stories of the newsprint from 50 years ago that's still completely legible. The difference with gDiapers is two-fold:

1) You have options when it comes to disposal. Flush, compost or toss. When flushed the gRefill is processed along with the rest of human waste and has just as much (or little) likelihood of hitting the landfill as does toilet paper. The material that does make it through the screens at treatment centers is very often used for soil reconditioning, hence, waste becomes resource. Home composting is ideal as it takes the wet gRefills and turns them into a resource that can be used in the home garden. gDiapers are the only compostable diaper out there.

Which leads to 2), gDiapers are plastic-free. Even if tossed and they do end up in the landfill alongside conventional disposables moms and dads can breathe easy knowing that there's no plastic in the production or materials. Which means on the upstream side (the production end of things) we're not using any harmful petroleum products or nasty chemicals. And perhaps more importantly, babies bottoms stay nice and healthy because they're not encased in plastic all day long.

gDiapers are the only diaper product to have received the esteemed accreditation of Cradle to Cradle. What this means is that everything in a gDiapers refill will be reabsorbed into the eco-system in a neutral of beneficial way. Flush, compost, or toss and feel great no matter what.

Why did you choose hemp in your gCloth instead of other eco-friendly materials like organic cotton?
Hemp is an amazing material. Hemp fibers absorb 15% more moisture than traditional cotton diapers. It's also three times stronger than cotton of the same weight, making it incredibly durable. Plus, it's breathable, which makes it more comfortable for babies. Hemp is inherently antifungal and has antibacterial properties and it's non-allergenic. All of these factors meant a lot to us in choosing which materials to use in our new gCloth inserts, plus there's the simple truth that hemp is an environmentally responsible plant. It produces a high yield but doesn't require pesticides as it has no known insect enemies and requires no bleaching. The absorbent qualities of hemp fibers function in a happy partnership with the wicking properties of the polyester microfleece top layer creating a cloth insert that performs beautifully.
Which gDiapers option is "greener," the gCloth or biodegradable gRefill?

The components of our gRefill options are very earth-friendly. Our plastic-free refill is certified Cradle to Cradle and biodegradable. Our gCloth refill is made of hemp and microfleece, absorbent, soft, and reusable.

So which is greener? The honest truth? They're both pretty great. As you well know, there are many shades of "green", but when it comes to making comparisons a lot of the analysis comes down to our choices as consumers. Will you be home composting your refills or tossing them? Will you be line or machine-drying your cloth refills? gDiapers - and your natural green habits -- gives you the flexibility to be earth-wise from the bottom up, regardless of which option you use.

What are your biodegradable gRefills made out of?

Our gRefills are made from a cellulose rayon coverstock, a fluffed wood pulp interior, and super absorber. They are free from elemental chlorine, latex, perfumes, dyes, and plastic.

What is super absorber, exactly?

The scientific name for super absorber is sodium polyacrylate (SAP). SAP has been rigorously tested both in the US and it has been concluded that it is completely safe and non-toxic. In fact, MBDC, which is the leading US-based design chemistry firm, has assessed SAP as GREEN, which is the safest assessment a chemical or material can receive. Safe for your baby, safe for the planet. We wouldn't settle for anything less.

What is fluffed wood pulp?

Wood pulp derived from cellulose fibers in trees is most often used to make paper. But it can also be dried in a special way to make the cellulose fibers more absorbent. It is then called Fluffed Wood Pulp and is the main component in a gDiapers Flushable.

"Tree Farming" (also know as "Forestry Plantation") is the practice of planting trees for timber production, then regularly harvested in 10-60 year cycles depending on the species of tree and the intended use. Trees used for making Fluffed Wood Pulp for gDiapers come from softwood plantations that are sustainably managed.

What are the little gPants and snap-in liners made out of?

Our little gPants are 92% cotton and 8% spandex. Our snap-in liners are a polyurethane-coated nylon. Our products have passed all necessary testing and are in full compliance with Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act regulations.  The CPSIA bans lead and phthalates in children’s products and mandates third party testing and certification, all of which gDiapers has passed with flying colors.

Is polyurethane a safe ingredient?

Some forms of polyurethane are indeed unsanitary. The most toxic are those used as floor sealers. However, depending on how it is made/cured, it is very safe. Polyurethane coated materials are used extensively in the medical/hygiene industry, among many others. It has been used next to the skin and in surgery because of its non-irritating, non-toxic properties.

Where are gDiapers made?

Our biodegradable gRefills are manufactured in Ohio, USA. Our little gPants, snap-in liners and gCloth are manufactured in Nanjing, China.

Why aren’t all your products made in the USA?

A lot of factors go into all of our supply chain decisions. At the end of the day, we are a "triple-bottom-line business," with three factors influencing all our major decisions:  people, planet and profit. Specifically, how will the people and communities involved in our business be impacted by our business decisions? How will the decision impact the environment? Is the decision in the best interest of the company financially?

Currently, it is simply still too expensive to make our all of our products in the US. The cost, unfortunately, would not allow us to bring little gPants to market at an affordable level for our customer. So, our little gPants, snap-in liners and gCloth are made in China. One other interesting piece is that when examining the US vs. overseas production, most of the textile industry has moved overseas as well, so in all likelihood, if the pants were sewn here, most of the fabric and materials going into them would probably need to be imported.

That decision means that we must also consider the labor (people) and environmental (planet) considerations of that decision.

To that end, we are committed to ensuring that every worker involved in our manufacturing is treated fairly and that working conditions are constantly being improved. We ensure social accountability through third-party, independent evaluation of the factories, as well as in-person visits by our gTeam. Co-founders Kim and Jason just recently returned from a lengthy visit to our China factory where their boys had hours of fun running down the aisles and playing on the basketball courts.

There is certainly an environmental impact of shipping the goods around the world. Our VP of operations is constantly evaluating shipping and freight considerations through an environmental lens. He is keenly aware of our environmental footprint and works hard every day to reduce it, while balancing the needs of the business.

We know that our customers are the best a company could ask for, so we try our hardest to make wise decisions that our customers will understand and appreciate.
