We run for Every Mother Counts. Will you?

April 21, 2015

By Kim Graham-Nye

My first half marathon in Tanzania last month was beyond awesome – and it had very little to do with running. Of course the backdrop of Mt. Kilimanjaro was spectacular. Of course the folks I was running with were inspirational, not just Christy Turlington Burns and the EMC crew, but the entire running team who raised over $170,000. But my reason for falling in love with running for Every Mother Counts is simple: it just FEELS AWESOME.

Let me be more specific.

Every Mother Counts is working to create awareness around the shocking statistics that one women dies every 2 minutes around the world from pregnancy and childbirth and that 98% of these deaths are preventable. My running helps them achieve that goal. Result: my small involvement is making a difference, which makes me feel, well… awesome.

Cradle to Cradle: better by design

April 20, 2015

We imagine a world where all products are designed and manufactured responsibly. Where all products are created with the end use in mind. A world that follows the principles of Cradle to Cradle, the world leader in ecologically intelligent design.

Cradle to Cradle goes beyond troubleshooting how to minimize waste, or how to prolong a product that will ultimately become waste, and instead encourages us to rethink the conditions that shape our designs in the first place. Cradle to Cradle utilizes design as a tool to shape a healthier world economically, ecologically and socially. We can in fact build a better world, a world of abundance, not scarcity. Rather than focusing on having a smaller footprint, Cradle to Cradle directs innovation toward a positive footprint. And it starts at the design level. Make “healthy, safe, efficient and quality products that are designed with future impact in mind.”

An ocean later: 8 months of extraordinary encounters, challenges, and milestones in our floating world

April 15, 2015

Once upon a time a lovely and expecting couple sent us an email that went something like this: “Hello. We’re pregnant and we live on a boat. We’d like to travel the world and use gDiapers. Can you help?” We said yes and launched our gDiapers: On Location blog series, a space dedicated to real families using g’s in unique living situations across the country (and beyond!). Jess, James and their baby girl, Rocket, have been traveling the world and riding the waves of parenting, all while striving for a sustainable lifestyle aboard their sailboat home. We are so honored to be sailing with them through their adventures. Read on for where they’ve been, and what (and who) lies just up ahead on the horizon.

Earth Hour, the gift of time

March 27, 2015

You know how there never seems to be enough time? It moves so quickly! Babies grow before our eyes, information whizzes through our brains, and our bodies transform in a flash. What if you could slow it all down, even just for a moment, would you?

The gDiapers team has been participating in Earth Hour since its inception in 2007. It was created as a lights-off event to raise awareness about climate change, a cause near and dear to our hearts. One hour, once a year, when individuals, organizations and even countries slow it down, turn it off and just … unplug. One hour. No TV. No laptop. No streaming audio or video. Just the space you’re in with the people you want near. And do you know what’s particularly special about that one hour? It’s a moment, slowed down. And that moment can be truly powerful.

g and EMC: the beginning

February 27, 2015

As I write this post, I am sitting on a plane en route to Kilimanjaro. I am catching my breath from the whirlwind of the last few weeks and find I’m pinching myself that this is actually happening. Every Mother Counts, g, Tanzania. These aren’t random pieces of a marketing strategy or socially responsible programs that were chosen by focus groups. This is the manifestation of people, issues and places that I have been passionate about my entire life.
